Stranger, Neighbor, Enemy, Best Friend with Steffani Jemison

11.11.2025
6:00 pm–8:00 pm

Where are you; where am I? How do we orient ourselves in relation to one another rather than in response to colonial borders and limits? How do we imagine our way into new horizons—undivided and indivisible relations to land and sea—when our physical landscape has been broken by centuries of violence?
Inspired by the children’s ‘game “Marco Polo”—in which players with closed eyes orient themselves in response to sound and voice—artist Steffani Jemison and her collaborators will lead participants through a series of playful prompts exploring perspective, movement, language and relation.
Gameplay will be preceded by a somatic warm-up and followed by a short lecture by Jemison contextualizing the game within theories of black and indigenous geography, including quotations for inspiration and a reading list for future research. Physical movement is adaptable and optional; come as you are.
