Kicking off his three-part Sonic Commons series, Jeremy Toussaint-Baptiste invites participants to consider breaking as a form of listening and creation. Bring a thing—an object or a thought. Maybe it’s precious. Maybe it isn’t. Break that thing. In this workshop,breaking or damaging becomes a strategy for sound-making—a breaking which might present an unrealized sound. These sounds will be recorded and culled into an archive of broken sounds which participants can later revisit and use as material in their own practices.
