Re-Rooting Our Relationship to Help: Reiki to Invite Care into our Lives

05.16.2024
1:00 pm–3:00 pm

With Jennelle Ramdeen, Healing Justice Practitioner

Asking for help, care, or support can sometimes feel uncomfortable and even painful. In this workshop we sought to utilize the healing power of reiki and other somatic methods to understand where this discomfort and pain come from to finally give ourselves permission to be cared for and supported. This space was to find the old roots that make it so uncomfortable to receive the support we need, offer it new nourishment, and watch it sprout into a new way of being. This journey included journalling, light somatic movement, and partnered sharing all inside of a container filled with reiki healing energy.

Key Workshop Takeaways

Participants left with:

  • more awareness of their internalized narratives that block them from asking and receiving help
  • somatic tools to reset and try again
  • create new affirmations and narratives that support asking for help

Before: Prepare to Succeed

  • Bring a journal and pen.
  • Wear something you feel comfortable doing low-intensity movement in.

Jennelle Ramdeen (they/she) is a Black queer healing justice practitioner. They are the founder of Lavender Veil, where they consult and coach to steward healing justice models as the foundation for liberation and systemic change.

Over the years, Jennelle has studied and created spaces for politicized healing, combined with their reiki practice, to transform relationships to accountability and harm, starting while they were community organizing with Black Youth Project 100 (BYP100), followed by their work with the NYC POC Healing Circle. Since then, they have held a range of roles in the field of healing justice, from researcher to healing clinic coordinator.
