A shout, an exclamation, a gasp, a silent scream. It can be loud or subdued, harsh or suspended. But without the silence there is no scream, and vice versa. Join us for a gathering followed by a Q&A, exploring the tension between the scream and the silence and their sometimes interchangeable qualities. Performers will present scores for screamers by Raven Chacon, Harmony Holiday will read a text on the catatonic scream, and JJJJJerome Ellis will join virtually to share a sound work that explores screaming intertwined with the philosopher Karmen MacKendrick’s notion of “silence as invitation and waiting.”
