Workshop with Trans Boxing

11.01.2023
7:00 pm–8:30 pm

Trans Boxing founder Nolan Hanson will lead a participatory workshop, followed by a lecture and a conversation. Through inviting audience members into experiential and theoretical components of the project, Nolan will expand on the ways that Trans Boxing functions as a community-building mechanism, while also providing a critique of conventional approaches to boxing and art-making.

About Trans Boxing

Trans Boxing is an ongoing and co-authored art project in the form of a boxing club. The project was started in New York City in 2017 by Nolan Hanson. Trans Boxing holds regular training in New York City and Los Angeles, and has facilitated workshops in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Cincinnati, and New Orleans, and developed projects in partnership with various community organizations, gyms, arts institutions, and schools across the country. The project responds to the forces of transphobia, and welcomes anyone with a desire to be free from the limitations imposed upon them on the basis of gender identity or expression within an athletic context. Trans Boxing is a coalition of fighters and trainers who are united across a diversity of identities and backgrounds through a common love of boxing.
