A shout, an exclamation, a gasp, a silent scream. It can be loud or subdued, harsh or suspended. But without the silence there is no scream, and vice versa. Join us for a gathering followed by a Q&A, exploring the tension between the scream and the silence and their sometimes interchangeable qualities. Isabel Crespo Pardo and other performers will present scores for screamers by Raven Chacon, Harmony Holiday will read a text on the catatonic scream, and JJJJJerome Ellis will join virtually to share a sound work that explores screaming intertwined with the philosopher Karmen MacKendrick’s notion of “silence as invitation and waiting.”
